Island Sanctuary of Delos
According to Greek mythology, Delos was the birthplace of Apollo. The sanctuary of Apollo attracted pilgrims from all over Greece to this revered island, a UNESCO World Heritage site that bears traces of civilizations dating back as far as the third millennium BC. Vast excavations include grand homes, temples, market squares and avenues, including the remarkable Terrace of the Lions and the stunning mosaics of the House of the Dolphins.
