Walking and Market Tour with Lunch

Submitted by carmine.nezi on

Set alongside the saltwater lagoon of Étang du Thau, Sète is a working port town, both for fishing and as the Mediterranean endpoint for two of France’s famed inland waterways, the Canal du Midi and the Canal du Rhône. Your guide will meet you at the yacht for the walking tour of the Old Port area. Stroll along the canals and across the bridges of the Old Port area whose quais are lined with colorful homes and historic warehouses. Learn about the town’s maritime industries and unique festivities to celebrate the annual Feast of St. Louis. You will have some free time to explore before heading to the market. You will make your way to Les Halles, the colorful covered market, to be joined by the owner of a market restaurant. As you walk up and down the aisles filled with the bounty of the land and sea, meet some of the vendors and fishmongers. Sete is particularly famous for its shellfish, which have been harvested from the lagoon since antiquity. Along the way, the restauranteur-chef will select ingredients to showcase in your midday meal. You will then return to the market restaurant for a combined cooking demonstration-lunch. The owners-cooks will share the secrets of tielle, an octopus pie that is a local specialty and your main course, accompanied by other regional fare and a glass of wine. Toast your deeper appreciation of French cuisine and culture as you dine with new friends. After the meal, your guide will escort you back to the yacht.
